"I Think, Therefore I Ant."

TTBD

I
used to write down a list that was identified as TTBD.
Things To Be Done… I would then pin it on the wall for everyone in
the house to see. Of course these "things that needed to be done" were
never really very great things... It wasn’t like I wrote stuff like, “Become
a secret agent” or “Become
a secret double agent”, no, these were sadly average things that, well,
just needed to be done. “Grout”
was a word that figured prominently in my list, “wash”,” scrub”, “bank,” “go to”… There was always a go
to… usually the bank … It was the mundane printed up for all in my house to
see. To be honest, I’m surprised I wanted to put it up on the wall, let
alone remember to do any of it… I always felt the list needed to be
seriously jazzed up. You know, cross out “
Wash
the car” and replace it with “Experiment
more with hookers and cocaine.” I
know my guests used to smirk at my list… And, of course, then there was the
reality that the listed chores would never actually get done. The
car would not get washed, the floors would not be scrubbed… and that meant
that the list won – which is a lousy thing to have a list do to you.
Especially by one you put up yourself. It
became an advertisement for my failure… My failure to do a crap job that at
one time I felt was important enough to do and so I wrote it down on a list
and pinned it to a wall… So everyone could see that I didn’t do it. Still,
I could at least guarantee that I’d be able to put a red line through “go
to the bank”. And then I’d
get to say, “I did that, I went to the bank.”
…Although I don’t think I ever remember anyone congratulating me
for this achievement…

The
Elevator Hug
Here's a
link
to a little cartoon I volunteered to write for. It's a campaign for
a "Virtual Hug."
This virtual hug is meant to
help raise funds for Meagan’s Walk which raises funds to fight paediatric
brain tumours. Meagan’s Walk was started by Denise Bebenek after her 5 year
old daughter Meagan died of a brain tumour 6 years ago. Every year on
Mother’s Day, Denise leads thousands of people to hug SickKids where Meagan
had received such excellent care. This virtual hug remembers her love of
laughter and of hugs. If it makes you smile, I hope you will
consider sharing this virtual hug with your friends and maybe even
consider donating to this worthy cause.
