Campaign Journal As the issue of fighting a losing war becomes more heated, President Bush criticized Democratic rival John Kerry on Tuesday for saying he would still have voted to authorize the war in Iraq even if he had known that no weapons of mass destruction would be found. In Florida, the Bush man told several thousand cheering supporters that “almost 220 days after switching positions to declare himself the anti-war candidate, my opponent has found a new nuance,” saying he “now agrees it was right to go into Iraq and kill people.” “After months of questioning my questionable motives and my even more questionable credibility, Senator Kerry now agrees with me that even though we have not found the stockpiles of weapons that we all knew were never there... he would have voted to go into Iraq and remove Saddam Hussein from power,” Bush said. “I want to thank Senator Kerry for clearing that up. I find it refreshing to hear that he also agrees that America has carte blanche to make war on bogus grounds and in defiance of the United Nations and world opinion. And I ask you: Now who is the lesser of two evils, huh?” the president chirped. On Monday, Kerry said he would have voted to authorize the war knowing what he does now. “At least, I think so, for now. I hope that clears things up.” He added. Kerry’s comments came after Bush challenged him for a yes-or-no answer to the question of whether he would have supported the invasion. “I have given my answer. We did the right thing and the world is better off for it,” the president said last Friday. “And I ask president Bush this yes-or-no question: Do you still use a crack pipe when you smoke your drugs?” With Sen. John McCain at his side, Bush said that he wasn’t going to get into a battle of drug paraphernalia semantics and instead patted the Republican Senator on the head and said, “See this nervous little guy here? The war drove him crazy. He’s completely unstable. And I want everyone to listen to what he has to say.” Introducing Bush, McCain sighed heavily, and with little to no conviction stated, “George Bush – Maybe He is The Lesser of Two Evils.”Aug 10 / 2004 |
